Importing data

The Data Import window helps you format your data to be compatible with the ArrayMiner (csv) format. To invoke the Importer, simply select the "Data Import" option of the file menu of ArrayMiner.

  • Step 1

Load your data into the importer by pushing the "Get data from clipboard" or the "Load data from file" button. Your data will be displayed in the table. Click on the "Next" button to continue.

  • Step 2

Choose the column separator. The two most common separators are the comma and the tab separator. You can specify any character as separator by clicking on the other checkbox.
Choose the text separator. The most common text delimiter is the double quotes.
Empty cells will be colored cyan as in the above figure. Red cells at the end of a line means that this line has less cells than the longest line in the file.

  • Step 3

Choose the numerical part of your data. Note that you must select the largest rectangle including your numerical values. You will be able to exclude columns as flags in the following steps. You can use the "Auto guess" button to let ArrayMiner try to highlight the numerical part.

  • Step 4

Select your gene name column. If you don't have such a column, simply click on the "None" button. To select the column, simply click on any of its cells.

  • Step 5

Select your gene description column. If you don't have such a column, simply click on the "None" button. To select the column, simply click on any of its cells.

  • Step 6

Select your data headers. If you don't have such rows, simply click on the "None" button. To select the header row, simply click on any of its cells. To select multiple header rows, maintain the "Shift" key down while selecting.

  • Step 7

Select the experiments you want to include in your data file by checking the appropriate checkboxes. The "valid values" table column displays how many numerical values contains the experiment. If an experiment does not contain any numerical values, it will be automatically excluded.

  • Step 8

    Choose the output format :

    • The "Clipboard" button will copy the imported data into the clipboard. You can then open them by choosing the "Get data from clipboard" option in the file menu of ArrayMiner
    • The "Save CSV" button will save the imported data in a comma separated value file. You can open the file by choosing the "Open" option of the file menu of ArrayMiner
    • The "Save CSV and Run" button behaves as the "Save CSV" button, but will automatically open the imported data
